NCATE President James Cibulka Responds to NCTQ Report

On Thursday, July 21, 2011 the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) released its report titled Student Teaching in the United States, in which 134 institutions from across the United States were rated by NCTQ as being model, good, weak, or poor on 5 of 19 NCTQ-created standards that focus on student teaching specifically. While the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) applauds any effort that contributes credible evidence on high quality teacher preparation and student teaching in particular, there are a number of points in the report that raise serious concerns. We list five here.
