NCATE considers state requests for a one year delay of their state partnership renewal on a case-by-case basis. The majority of states that are granted delays use the additional time to move reform agendas forward, enabling them to ultimately submit partnership agreement renewals that reflect fundamental improvements and further alignment with NCATE's performance-based system of accreditation.

NCATE may grant an extension of the partnership in cases where there are no significant changes to the agreement, and NCATE conducts the program reviews.
